Assorted beans and roasts produce different particle distribution characteristics when ground at different speeds. With a feature not before seen in a commercial grinder, the EG-1 gives the barista the ability to set the RPM of the burrs. RPM is adjusted via the external Control Module which houses the power supply, control knob, and grind speed LED readout.
With a twist of the wrist, the barista can vary the grind speed from 200 to 1,500 RPM based on personal preference rather than relying on a fixed factory setting. The faster the grind, the more heat produced and introduced into the grounds. With speed control, the barista can choose to make the tradeoff of grind time versus quality or use the RPM that she feels best suits the bean.
